What to do in Tatranska Strba?

Relax in nature

Tatranska Strba is a gateway to the High Tatras, located only 11 km away from a glacier lake - Strbske Pleso, which is easily accessible by car or rack railway. You can experience the summer season however you prefer, be it a light walk in the High Tatras or a power hike to one of the glacier lakes, towering peaks, or alpine huts. While enjoying your chosen activity don't forget to explore the fascinating world of animals and plants accompanied by breathtaking panoramic views. If you bring your little ones along, you will certainly appreciate cable car trips, educational trails, or many other available attractions. Although most tourists visit High Tatras during summer, they offer exciting activities throughout the whole year.

Get to know the sub-Tatra nature as well! It is equally beautiful but explored by fewer tourists. After an exhausting day of hiking, or giving your all on the ski slope, a walk in the fresh mountain air will help you restore energy. Hill Lieskovec

Take a few panoramas after running up the Lieskovec, located in the immediate vicinity of the outdoor area of Monte Amnis Apartment.

After a short walk to the top through a diverse meadow along the beehive, you will get to a magical place from which you can admire the panoramic scenery of the magnificent peaks of the High and Western Tatras, the meadows of the basin - Podtatranská kotlina and the distant mountain range - Low Tatras.

Pond - Strbsky rybnik

The nearby pond is a picturesque place to rest and recharge energy. Thanks to beautiful scenes of rippling water surface in front of the towering mountains, it has rightfully become a popular location for photographers.

The pond is only 1,62 km away from the apartment, making it a short walk or a bike ride away.

Rack railway

A newly reconstructed rack railway will take you from Tatranska Strba directly to Strbske pleso after an 8min walk from the apartment to the railway station. The rack railways in Tatranská Štrba is one of the two rack railways in Slovakia, transporting excited tourists between stations Tatranska Strba and Strbske pleso since 1896. In its early years it was power by a steam system and operated until 1936, being renewed in 1970 on the occasion of the Nordic World Championships, and finally in 2021 it underwent extensive reconstruction. There is only one intermediate stop on the track - Tatransky Lieskovec.

In 2021, the rack railway is undergoing extensive reconstruction. It's out of service until further notice.

German military cemetery

The largest of sic German military cemeteries - Vazec is located next to the E50 road between Važec and Tatranska Strba, just 3,6 km from Monte Amnis Apartment.

The resting place of the 6 000 young German soldiers who have never returned home from the fight is being cared for and kept well maintained by German organizations year-round.

The majestic panorama of the High Tatras accentuates the dignity of the reverential place, creating quiet and specific, indescribable atmosphere in all seasons

Walks and easy cycling trails

In the vicinity of the apartment we discovered beautiful trails for undemanding cycle trips or for walking to the medieval settlement of Soldov, the village of Strba, to Strbsky rybnik - pond or to the playground on the highway rest area, as a reward for the smallest cyclists. The elevations of the routes are slight, just such that the road is not boring. However, there are certainly breathtaking views of any world side, starting with the majestic Tatras, Liptov or Podtatranska Kotlina - Basin. In clear weather, it is possible to observe the Great peaks of the Low Tatras in the west (Chopok, Dumbier, Derese) or the Kralova Hola from the east.

Cave - Vazecka jaskyna

This cave is one of the most famous in northern Slovakia.

Even though one of the shorter caves, it has much to offer with its fascinating dripstone structures, remarkable findings of cave bear bones, as well as rare cave fauna.

Horseback riding and e-bike rental

Discover the beauties of the sub-Tatra nature from a back of a horse! Just 7km from the apartment in the village of Mengusovce, there is a year-round equestrian school, offering its services to beginners as well as advanced riders in an open riding hall and even directly in the surrounding nature.If horses are not really your thing, e-bike rental is only a few steps away from the apartment.

Thanks to its special location on the border of Liptov and the High Tatras region, and its immediate connection to the highway, Tatranska Strba is an excellent starting point for day trips to more distant locations.

Dam - Liptovska Mara

Liptovska Mara is the largest dam in Slovakia with sightseeing boats inviting for a calm ride viewing the beauty of the scenery surrounding the dam.

Apart from swimming and splashing around on one of the beaches, the dam offers excellent conditions for relaxation, family peace as well as active holidays.

A wide range of water sports such as boating, surfing, jet ski rides as well as entertainment parks and facilities like Tatralandia, Tatrapolis, Hurricane Factory, Fun Arena and others are a magnet for holidaymakers.

Museum of Liptov village Pribylina

The open-air museum can be found near Liptovsky Hrádok in the walley Rackova dolina towards Podbanske, where the panorama is complemented by the peaks of the Western Tatras. It was founded in connection to the construction of the dam Liptovska Mara. The museum consists of houses from the now flooded part of the dam and from the area of upper and lower Liptov. The tour of the expositions takes about 2-3 hours while you admire the folk architecture and then the guide accompanies you to the manor house, church, and earthly yeoman curia, finishing with an exposition of the forest railway Povazska zeleznicka.

A small animal exhibition was created in the museum, presenting care for domestic animals.
